Masterplan Challenge Implementation
Guideline to create a S4GA project
Awarding ceremony
Going abroad as part of the learning experience in VET was quite popular throughout Europe. While developing personally and occupationally, VET learners also had to develop skills and competencies for global development and a better future. One of the most significant aspects in this context were the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as they were expected to shape the course of the future. The project supported the incorporation of ecological, economic, and social sustainability in vocational education and training through the qualification and sensitisation of VET learners and staff in the context of learning mobilities.
We wanted to reduce the environmental impact of VET mobilities! Our goal was to continue supporting attractive VET mobilities while at the same time reducing the environmental impact through consciously sustainable travel and actions by every one of our participants. Especially within VET, the aim was to prepare learners for a labour market increasingly characterised by the SDGs.
This project aimed at sensitising VET learners and VET staff to sustainability, educating them about it, offering an easy way to incorporate it into their daily lives, and using them as ambassadors for further spreading the idea.
Relevance and objectives:
Sustainability is a key theme for young people in Erasmus+ VET mobility, as it equips them with essential future competences. Many current professional profiles require environmentally responsible and resource-efficient practices. Mobility experiences also allow young people to recognise sustainability, climate action and social responsibility as international challenges. They develop awareness, reflect on their own behaviour, and act as multipliers in their schools and companies. In doing so, they contribute directly to the objectives of the European Green Deal.
The overall objective of the project was to raise awareness and understanding of sustainability among VET learners, to provide accessible and practical options for integrating sustainable behaviour into their daily lives, and to empower them to act as ambassadors within their institutions and communities. All planned results were fully achieved and effectively supported the original project goals.
Implementation and results:
A comprehensive qualitative and quantitative analysis of the sustainability status quo in the partner countries (based on GreenComp and the SDGs) was conducted. This led to the development of national country reports and, subsequently, a European reference model (White Paper). This analytical groundwork served as the scientific basis for all following outputs: the training curriculum, the teaching and learning materials, the learning app and the challenge-based activities.
In Work Package 3, learning outcomes for a VET sustainability curriculum were defined and structured in a detailed Table of Competences. The curriculum and materials were designed in the form of flexible digital learning credentials. A complete macro- and micro-planning of learning outcomes was developed, as well as a framework for Micro-Credentials to enable digital implementation.
This implementation was realised through a Progressive Web App (PWA), providing modular learning content accessible at any time on mobile devices. The app is multilingual, openly available as OER and requires no registration, offering significant added value, especially for VET learners on mobility—ensuring true “learning by doing and going”.
Challenge-Based Learning activities (WP5):
The practical application of learning outcomes was demonstrated through the national and European Scouts4GreenApp Challenge. Participants submitted their contributions using a digital application form. All submissions were evaluated by an independent jury, and outstanding entries were awarded. The award ceremony during European Skills Week in Brussels was a project highlight and ensured strong visibility.
The challenge-based learning approach proved highly effective. It allowed learners to address real, open-ended sustainability problems, deepen their subject knowledge through authentic tasks, and develop transversal competences such as critical thinking, problem-solving and collaboration. This approach represents a promising model for future sustainability education in mobility contexts.
Achievement of planned results:All intellectual outputs and activities were successfully developed, implemented and validated. The project delivered high-quality, transferable and sustainable results that align with the objectives of Erasmus+ VET mobility and contribute to strengthening sustainability competences across Europe.
